Wow....Miss Katie had an awesome day. After about 6 hours of Volleyball and 4 matches, our team ended up second in the tournament, losing the tie-breaker by 3 points.

Katie played fabulous and had a wonderful time. Here are a few pics.

West Texas Trip

Last week I had the opportunity to travel through West Texas on a business trip. (At the first of the year, I sculpted out a sales territory for West Texas and Eastern New Mexico and hired a Sierra Blanco raised gentleman, Dalton West, who has been the high school pricipal at Liberty Hill for the past several years.) Anyway, Dalton and I started our trip in Midland, calling on Crane, McCamey, Ft.Stockton, Marathon, Alpine, Marfa, Ft.Davis, Balmorhea and Pecos. It was a fun loop, as I had not been in the Davis Mountain area for over 15 years.

There were several highlights to the trip, but it was particulary fun to see Brent and Ruth McWillaims in Marfa and Mrs. Grubb in Ft.Davis. I also met Marsha Roach in Alpine, as she is the Superintendents Assistant at Alpine ISD.

While we were in Alpine, Jim had mentioned to me that his girlfriend, Amy (who lives in Alpine), worked in an apparal business. While driving down a street, I thought something about a certain business seemed familiar.....so I popped in and asked for Amy..... A very nice lady said...."I am Amy". Long story short, I met Amy and we were able to chat for a little before Dalton and I had to head down the road. My final opinion....Jim is dating way over his head.....Amy is wonderful.

Spending the night in the Paisano Hotel in Marfa was certainly a highlight as well. The Hotel is owned by Joe Duncan and has been renovated to a very nice condition.

Marfa has changed quiet a bit, but driving through the town, it still looks like the Marfa of 20 years ago with a few changes. We stopped at a convience store and I ran into Britt Webb. He looked really good and was thrilled to catch up.

While in Marfa, I ran down to the paper with Coach Mac to deliver a game report and learned that Robert Halpern is the editor of the Big Bend Sentinal. He recognized that I was a Lane immediately. I think he was in Clay's class.

That evening, we also ate at "Jet's", the restaurant attached to the hotel. The food was absolutely wonderful and a real treat in Marfa.

After returning to the Permian Basin Fudd treated us to a wonderful tour of Athletic Supply and then we had dinner with Jim, Jacque and Fudd.

It was a fun trip and brough back many memories. There was a moment when we were in Marathon and Dalton was meeting with the administration.....I was standing outside, looking at the desert mountains and was just in awe at the quiet, solitude.....pretty amazing. Part of me misses the Davis Mountain area. Audra and I are now thinking about a Texas trip to see Mom and the Mathis', but also return through Ft.Davis for the 4th of July Celebration this summer. We will see......

Cassi's 19th

Wow....I know I keep saying this every year, but it is soooo hard to believe that my first baby doll is a year older. This weekend, we celebrated Cassi's 19th birthday. Cassi spent Friday up in Denver, shopping with some friends, we went skiing on Saturday and Sunday we took her out to for some Italian....to end the evening it was cake and a present, an ITouch.

On Thursday night, Audra made Cassi one of Mimi's Chocolate Pies and she enjoyed it for breakfast on the 8th, her real birthday.

Lunch at the Italian Restaurant. If I remember correctly, Cassi feasted on Chicken Marsala.....and the waiter spoiled her with a chocolate, fudge cake and ice cream.

Saturday Ski Trip

Audra and I had put together a wonderful plan to take a day off on Friday, drive up to Beaver Creek and ski with one of my company friends. But as fate would have it, all the highways were closed down due to heavy snow and winds.

So, on Saturday, we took the kids up to Keystone for an awesome day of skiing and riding. Honestly, by looking at the pics below, you wouldn't know we had weather worth a darn to make some runs down a slope.....but, after coming over Hoosier Pass, the wind quit and the day was awesome!!!!!

The pics below are of our trip to Keystone. If you looked up at the sky, it was a beautiful day, but looking back at the road.....we were driving through a massive, ground blizzard. Many times, it was a total white-out, but we kept the T4R on the road.

These are near, white-out conditions. (You really have to click on this pic to get the full effect.)

Sometimes it got pretty exciting as the snow drifts across the road, occasionally 12" deep, gave our Toyota a chance to prove how awesome it is.

Blowing snow at 11,000 feet elevation....the road that is. That peak in the background is a 14'er.

Attack of the Pom-Pom Zombies

Sand Creek High School Teaching Staff presents .... Attack of the Pom-Pom Zombies.

Time of the Play...1960's. The Setting...Santa Muerta Beach.

High School Cheer Leaders are infected with nuclear waste and turn into Zombies. At the end of the play, true love converts the zombies back to normal kids.

How many of you can picture Audra as an actor in a play? I am still having trouble picturing it and accepting it. My love...the gal that is so careful to not ever embarrass herself...threw all caution to the wind.

Audra was absolutely hilarious!!!! She had one of the lead roles and just did outstanding. I have always known that I married a drama queen and now it is publicly proven.

Katie's 13th.....

The 13th of January, 2008, has ushered in a new era in the Lane's Household. On this day, Audra and I....along with Cassi, Bryce and Tyler, celebrated the 13th birthday of Katie......bringing our 'Teenage Count' to four. Yes, family and friends, all four kiddos are now teenagers. (Cassi 18, Bryce 17, Tyler 15 and Katie 13!!!!)

Katie chose a simple white cake with whipped cream icing.

The kiddos helping her celebrate!

If there is one thing I have learned in raising two girls....when they reach teen-age-hood....it is no longer toys, but clothing. Katie is sporting her new Hollister Jacket and after that....shirts, etc.
