Rafting the Upper Arkasas River, Brown's Canyon

In lieu of a big family vacation this year, we have decided to stay in the state of Colorado, enjoying all the state has to offer. Our first adventure was 'lived out' today with a rafting trip on the Arkansas River. We rafted Brown's Canyon, which is a half day float on class 2, 3 and 4 rapids.

Once we arrived in Salida on Monday evening, we promptly headed over to our favorite dive..... Amica's. They have award winning micro-brews and wood-fired pizza!

Then we headed down to the city park and the river.

And of course.... the boys feasted on the hotel breakfast..... Waffles, Donuts and 5 or 6 bowls of Captain Crunch the next morning!!!

Getting outfitted and 'learning the ropes' with a lecture on safety.

Arrival at the launch location.

At the bottom of this pic: Katie, Tyler and Bryce are sliding down the 'raft rail'.

It didn't take long for the white water to begin.

Right after this stretch, the Guide let Tyler, Bryce and I bail out in the river to 'swim the river' for about a 1/4 mile. Feet forward, floating through the rapids was a blast!

At one point, the Guides pulled us over for some rock jumping. Audra snapped this pic of me jumping into the FRIGID water. Cassi already jumped and is in the water below me.
